Parent Involvement

Remember that faith formation begins at home! These parish programs can only supplement the Catholic Christian environment you provide as a parent. Your Godly attention to and nurture of your son or daughter far outweighs what we can provide in a few hours each week.

Youth Ministry Core Team Members and Religious Education Catechists

Who will help? Who will come to serve? The truth is, most people either had a negative sunday school experience or think adolescent youth are to wild and out of control. While working with youth and children has its challenges, they are amazing group of Catholics to work with.

Committed core members and catechists can make the difference in the live of a student and a parish family. Core Teams and catechists serve as mentors, ministers, teachers and spiritual directors using programs like Life TeenEdge and Finding God to help provide a strong Catholic catechesis with a age appropriate structured environment. What the students experience from the time they arrive until they leave is relational ministry. This is not about preparing a lesson, it is about caring for each student we meet.

Core members and catechists should be actively participating in the life of the Church through weekly Mass, going to Confession regularly and other forms of prayer. Core members cannot help youth grow spiritually if they are not growing spiritually.

Think and Pray about Getting Involved

Opportunities for involvement range from a few hours occasionally to team teaching a session or leading a small group. We provide training and support for the job God calls you to do.

Please pray daily for our students’ spiritual growth. Pray for wisdom for our parents as they guide their children to maturity. Pray also for time and energy for core team members and catechists as they prepare for and lead sessions, meetings and special events. The most important need we have as a ministry is your prayer support and encouragement. Thank you!

Parish Safe Environment Program

As Christian adults, we have a moral and legal responsibility and are entrusted by God with the spiritual, emotional and physical well being of minors and vulnerable adults as they participate in activities within or sponsored by our Diocese. It is our responsibility and commitment to provide an environment which is safe and nurturing.

In order to achieve the above, St. Joseph has a Safe Environment Program that implements training, screening, background checks and other procedures that are designed to reduce the risk of sexual abuse of children and vulnerable adults.

We require all parents and volunteers who are considering assisting to go through or renew their Safe Environment Training.
