Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.

Locally, the Knights of Council 8417 are known for supporting the parish through fish fry’s, daddy/daughter dances, casino nights, cooking BBQ for the parish school, supporting St Vincent de Paul society, ushering at Mass, and challenging men to grow in faith.

Members in the Knights and their families also have access to the top-quality life insurance, long term care insurance, disability income insurance, and annuity products.
